This qualification equips you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to work with children from birth to preschool age in various care and education settings.

The qualification is delivered using  Shafston’s Online Learning Management System. On enrolment and completion of pre-requisites, students gain access to the full suite of training and learning resources, which may include but is not limited to a library of documents, recordings, media, external links, and other materials that can be used for study.

Placement & Hours

To achieve this qualification, individuals must complete at least 160 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia, as specified in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

There are no formal prerequisites for this course, but you must be at least 16 years old

(Note: students below 18 years old will need to investigate potential vocational placement options prior to enrolment as some placement centres will not accept underage students)

 

Students are also required to: 

  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI); 
  • Provide a valid ID with picture and signature;  
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation; 
  • Undertake a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation; and 
  • Obtain a Working With Children Check (Blue Card)

The course (Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care) typically takes 12 to 18 months, depending on your study mode and pace.

Students are required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation at the commencement of their course. Where it has been identified where students have significant skill gaps that will hinder them from successfully undertaking their course, these will be discussed with the student prior to course commencement.
