Vocational Education and Training. It focuses on practical skills and demonstrated competency, and leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

It is delivered within the senior secondary environment, alongside school subjects, but it is a vocational qualification, not a school subject.

Yes, in every state and territory, each under its own rules. In Queensland, for example, each qualification can contribute up to 8 QCE credits: Certificate III and IV count towards Core credits; a Diploma counts as Complementary.

Depending on the qualification and the institution, it can contribute to entry pathways. Rules vary between institutions and between admission years.

They sit at AQF levels 3, 4 and 5. Each level prepares you for more specialised and more independent work, and they differ in how they count towards your senior certificate.

Through evidence of what you can do: practical tasks, projects, documentation, reports, presentations and knowledge questions. The outcome is Competent or Not Yet Competent.

The units you completed are still recognised: you receive a Statement of Attainment for them.

Individual enrolments are studied online, alongside your school subjects. Schools that partner with Shafston can arrange other delivery models.

No. VET does not meet the literacy and numeracy requirements of a senior certificate, so English and Maths still have to be studied at school.
