About this course

Who it suits, and how it runs

This course is for students who are drawn to the creative and analytical side of business. Students learn how consumers make decisions, how to research a market, how to plan and run marketing activities and promotions, how to write for different audiences and how to present and defend ideas. Social media, digital content and public relations are covered through the elective units.

Students work on live briefs and campaign projects for a simulated business, building a portfolio of marketing work they can show to universities and employers.

QCE credits (Qld example)

8 credits on completion (Core category). Credits count towards the 12 completed Core credits required for a QCE.

ATAR (Qld example)

In Queensland, yes. A completed Certificate IV can be the fifth input in an ATAR calculation (with four General subjects), and attracts a higher statewide scaled score than a Certificate III.

Duration and load

2 years (Year 11 and Year 12), about 2 to 3 hours of class contact per week plus 2 hours of self-paced study.

Competency based. Marketing plans, campaign projects, market research reports, written communication tasks, presentations and knowledge questions.

Further study

Diploma of Marketing and Communication, Diploma of Business, bachelor degrees in business, marketing or communication.
